“everyone.travels.smarter” is not just the dream behind TripGo, but also marks a specific location in Iran. What3Words, an award winning startup, has developed a universal addressing system based on a 3m x 3m global grid. That means every 3m x 3m square in the world has a unique 3 word address. And now TripGo is the first public transit app to integrate What3Words.
No more sharing GPS to meet up with friends
With TripGo, you can combine any public transport mode with any private transport mode of your choice into one trip. The app offers an actual door-to-door service, no matter which transport mix, making sure you get there on time.
In the past, using a location like “Hyde Park” meant that you often got close to your destination but then might have to phone, text, share your GPS location or walk up and down to find your friends.
TripGo will send you to the right location
Now this has changed. 3 words are much more precise than most location information, and much quicker and easier to remember than a long string of numbers. So instead of “let’s meet at Hyde Park” you can just say “let’s meet at diary.flying.sugar”, and everyone will turn up at the right spot.
The frustration of being almost-but-not-quite-there is gone – whether you’re cycling, walking, taking the bus or the underground. Just type the What3Words locations into TripGo’s “to” or “from” fields and it will present you with your best route options as usual.
Or to see the What3Words address of your current location, drop a pin on it (tap on ‘current location icon, then tap on “from” field and select “drop pin”), then tap on the address that popped up. The What3Words address if on the bottom of the Location information screen.
TripGo works in hundreds of cities worldwide and more cities are added all the time. This means you don’t have to download a new app when you go overseas. Whether you’re navigating round New York or Helsinki, TripGo will you where you need to be, when you need to be there.
More about What3Words
What3Words is a global grid of 3mx3m squares where each square has been pre-allocated a fixed and unique 3 word address. The startup has won a range of awards, including the Innovation Grand Prix at the Cannes Lions festival of Creativity as well as the Eurobest Grand Prix for Innovation.
The system works in several languages already, and more are constantly being added. The “addresses” can’t just be translated though as each square has different combination of words in each language (if you want to know why, click here).
